Tour des Chutes added a 5K run/walk in 2014 to honor local Bend runner Johanna Olson (read more about Johanna’s story here), who died of cancer in 2013 at the age of 34. While the event is non-competitive and open to all skills and ability levels, the course does offer enough challenges to be intriguing to even the most seasoned runner.
The 5K run/walk course features mixed terrain of well-maintained gravel roads and paved walkways through the Tree Farm neighborhood. Participants are greeted by tall pine forests followed by territorial views of Bend and the Cascade mountains. There is very little traffic along the course, and portions of it are not open to the public except during Tour des Chutes.
The run/walk begins at 9:30 a.m., and all participants and their friends and family are invited to join us for a great party after the finish. We will have a delicious burrito bar hosted by Longboard Louie’s, live music, and a Vendor Village featuring community partners, an activity station for kids and families, and more!

Please note: While the route is family-friendly, strollers with larger wheels will do better on the gravel sections! Also, please leave your furry pets at home. Cycling, running, kids and dogs don’t mix well at this active, complex event. We know you’ll understand!
Safety & Support
Our 5K course includes a fully stocked aid station with food, drinks, and volunteers ready to provide inspiration!
Please follow the route along the walkways through the Tree Farm neighborhood. Even though the traffic is intermittent, it is important to remain on these pathways for the safety of participants and community members alike. Thank you for your help!
