Through NW Crossing Neighborhood
COPAFamily 5K Run/Walk- In 2014, Tour des Chutes added a 5k non-competitive fun run/walk, sponsored by Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA), supported by The Kralj Family, to honor Bend runner, Johanna Olson, who died of cancer in 2013 at age 34. Designed by Bend’s own Dave Thomason (“Super Dave”), this route featured a loop through the Northwest Crossing neighborhood. The inaugural family 5K running/walking event was inspired by Johanna and created specifically to raise money to support children with cancer.
The Run/Walk directly benefits Pediatric Foundation, a new Central Oregon non-profit that provides financial support to families who have a child with cancer who must travel out of the area to receive life saving treatments. This new 5K run was the beginning of a great tradition with Tour des Chutes…expanding our support to include children. Event founder, Gary Bonacker, worked hard for years to find a way to include adolescents and children as beneficiaries and in its 10th year, Tour des Chutes is finally able to do that. And, with Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA) and The Kralj Family supporting the event as the major sponsor, the run will carry on for years to come. We thank the family and friends of Johanna who allowed Tour des Chutes to create this exciting new event in her honor.
SAFETY NOTE: Strollers and children of all ages are welcome. Please leave your furry loved ones at home. Cycling, Running, Kids and Dogs don’t mix well at this active, complex event. We know you’ll understand!
